Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at hello@redharttherapy.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Everybody is different and the number of sessions depends on a number of factors. Guidelines suggest that any one difficulty, e.g. Panic attacks or depression, would warrant anywhere from 12-20 sessions. Some people manage to make quick progress and may choose to finish sooner, and some may want to continue sessions further. Your therapist will ensure that they are open with you about treatment plans and encourage you to make as much progress as possible outside of sessions to ensure you are getting the most from therapy.

If you feel as though you are struggling with more than one difficulty, for example low self esteem and trauma, this does not necessarily mean you will need to have double the amount of sessions, as therapists are often able to use a ‘transdiagnostic approach’, which means they are able to use a lot of the therapeutic skills developed in sessions across multiple difficulties. Please ask your therapist about this in your initial call if you have any concerns about this.

Therapy sessions prices change in accordance with start times.

Sessions held in ‘normal working hours’, starting from 09:00 and ending by 17:00, Monday-Friday, are charged at £80 per session. Sessions held before 09:00 and after 17:00 are charged at £90 per session. Saturday sessions are charged at £110 per session.

Therapy sessions last 50 minutes. Sometimes sessions may require 90 minute sessions, for specific therapeutic techniques such as those used in PTSD work. This would be agreed with the therapist before getting started.

To best benefit from therapy, it is advised that you have weekly sessions, as indicated by NHS England and BABCP. However, if this is not feasible for you, sessions can be fortnightly and at the discretion of your therapist. By having weekly sessions, you will be able to select a time that suits you that can be your slot each week, however by having less frequent sessions your therapist may not be able to guarantee the same day and time.

Cognitive behavioural therapy relies heavily on the relationship you build with your therapist. We therefore ensure that you work with the same therapist so that you can build on trust and understanding and feel safer in your sessions to discuss your difficulties comfortably.

Whilst we do have a therapy contract set up with you before sessions start, this contract does not commit you to any period of time. If you do not feel therapy is right for you once sessions have started, you can pause or cancel sessions at any point.

Our policy for session charges dictates that we ask you pay for each individual session at least 3 days in advance. Our cancellation policy indicates that if you cancel a session within 24 hours of the planned session we have a 100% charge fee, and within 48-24 hours a 50% charge fee. If you cancel before 48 hours, and have paid, you will be entitled to a full refund.
